Luis Andres Compres Brugal, MD

Our pediatric cardiology specialists offer children comprehensive cardiac care for congenital (present at birth) and acquired (developed later) heart conditions. Italo Linfante, M.D, is the co-director of interventional neuroradiology at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Linfante specializes in endovascular procedures and interventional neuroradiology. He is fluent in English and Italian. Dr. Linfante joined Miami Neuroscience Institute from Baptist Health Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, where he served as medical director of interventional neuroradiology. He is currently a clinical professor of radiology and neuroscience at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University. He previously served as an associate professor of neurology and radiology in the University of Massachusetts’ Section of Neuroendovascular Surgery/Interventional Neuroradiology and was attending physician in Neuro Endovascular Surgery at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Linfante has participated in major clinical trials in medications and device-related technology to treat stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases. He has lectured nationally and internationally on related topics. Dr. Linfante has been a member of the Editorial Board of the scientific journal Stroke since 2002 and an associate editor for the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery. He has also been an editor for several other major peer-reviewed medical journals in neurosurgery and neuroradiology. He is the author of scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals such as Stroke, Neurology, Neurosurgery and the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery. He has published numerous book chapters and books on stroke and cerebrovascular diseases. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Specialties in Neurology and Vascular Neurology and Diplomate in NeuroEndovascular Surgery from the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). Dr. Linfante holds several leadership positions in neuroendovascular surgery. He is a founding member and was president of the Society for Interventional Neurology (SVIN). He also served on the Executive Committee of the Society for Neuro Interventional Surgery (SNIS). He has been the chairman of several sessions and scientific symposiums of the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Stroke Association (ASA). In addition, he served as chairman and faculty of the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology, and the International Symposium of Endovascular Therapy (ISET). He has received numerous awards, including the Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) and Stroke Council, Cum Laude Award of the American Society of Neuroradiology, Cor Vitae Award from the American Heart Association and others. When he is not treating patients, Dr. Linfante enjoys running, tennis, swimming, music, playing the guitar and traveling.

Samer D. Tabbal, M.D., is a board-certified neurologist and director of the movement disorders program at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. He specializes in Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, botulinum toxin (Botox) injections and deep brain stimulation programming for Parkinson’s disease, tremor and dystonia. Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Tabbal was the professor of neurology and attending neurologist at Penn State College of Medicine, in Hershey, Penn. During his career, he held the position of director of the Deep Brain Stimulation Program for Parkinson’s Disease and Other Movement Disorders at Washington University in St. Louis for 10 years and developed a movement disorder center at his alma mater, the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. Dr. Tabbal earned his medical degree at American University of Beirut. He completed his neurology residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock and a two-year fellowship in movement disorders at Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City. Widely published in peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Tabbal’s research focuses on the mechanisms of action of deep brain stimulation and its effects on brain imaging, movement control, cognition and mood. Dr. Tabbal is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and a member of several other professional organizations. Dr. Tabbal’s clinical philosophy is to treat patients as if they were family by providing compassionate, personalized care to enhance their well-being. Dr. Tabbal is fluent in English and Arabic. When he is not researching, educating or treating patients, he enjoys spending time with family as well as hiking, biking, cultural travel, philosophical discussions, watching soccer, scuba diving and exploring marine animals.
