Extendicare, through its subsidiaries, operates 440 long-term care and assisted living facilities throughout North America, with capacity for more than 34,400 residents. Extendicare was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wis. In 1969, the company purchased its first nursing home in Ottawa, Ontario, and began construction on four facilities in Ontario. In 1975, the company owned 20 nursing homes and managed two in Canada, and launched ParaMed Home Health Care - now Canada s largest private home care provider. Extendicare s Canadian headquarters are located in Toronto.
