Heritage Military Music Foundation

The Heritage Military Music Foundation in Watertown, WI, continues the legacy of the 1st Brigade Band, originally formed in 1864 by members of the Brodhead Brass Band who enlisted in the Union Army. This dedicated group of over eighty volunteers presents educational and entertaining programs featuring period brass band music performed on antique instruments, bringing to life the sounds of the Civil War era. Through their efforts, the band has restored historical instruments and reconstructed period music, allowing audiences to experience the musical heritage of the 1860s. As an affiliate of the Wisconsin Historical Society and a non-profit organization, the Foundation has been recognized for its excellence in preserving and sharing local history, including winning the Rueben Gold Thwaites Trophy in 2009.
