History

In 1969, the SJCC opened its Mercer Island campus and the Early Childhood School started with two teachers and 15 preschoolers. Celebrating 50 years in 2019, the SJCC ECS offers programs for children 3 months to five years old and their families. Nationally recognized among other JCC schools, ECS continues study the work of the schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy, and are deeply rooted in the idea that children learn through real-life, authentic experiences within a social context.

The SJCC Early Childhood School welcomes children 3 months to 5 years old and their families. Our mission is to support the potential of each child through a collaborative learning process. Children are encouraged to test their theories of the world so as to develop a love of learning, a strong sense of self-reliance, and a strong foundation for critical thinking.
