YFA Connections, founded in 1969 and based in Spokane, Wash., is a private independent nonprofit agency that provides counseling and treatment programs to the people of the area. The agency aims to provide prevention, intervention, education, and treatment services to youth, adults, and families experiencing conflict or crisis. YFA was founded by a group of local citizens concerned with the growing involvement of the youth with illegal and addictive drugs. From the initial focus on teenagers and marijuana, the agency now offers a wide range of counseling and treatment services. It also offers individualized treatment planning that addresses issues, such as, abstinence from alcohol and other drugs, resolution of legal issues, improvement in life skills, development of healthy support systems, and relapse prevention.
