The Appalachian African American Cultural Center (AAACC) is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing the history, heritage, and culture of Black Appalachians, with a particular focus on Lee County and Central Appalachia. Established in 1987 by Ron and Jill Carson, the center is housed in a historic one-room schoolhouse that served as the only primary school for African American children in Lee County from 1940 until 1965.
