The Salem Police Department is certified by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission. It has more than 100 employees who protect the life, individual liberty and property of all people within the city. The department maintains a communication center to handle emergency calls and record crime data. The Salem Police Department s patrol division investigates traffic crashes and provides funeral escorts. The department also manages a services division that is responsible for traffic enforcement operations and crime prevention activities. Located in Salem, Va., the department additionally operates specialized emergency response and bike patrol teams. The Salem Police Department is one of the original founding member agencies of the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy.
