Founded in 1957, Food Lion is one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States. It operates more than 1,200 supermarkets, directly and through affiliated entities, under the names of Food Lion, Bloom, Bottom Dollar, Harveys and Reid s. The company is a part of Brussels-based Delhaize Group, which operates food supermarkets in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. Food Lion s stores offer nationally and regionally advertised branded products, as well as private-label products. It employs more than 70,000 associates and sells over 28,000 different products. The company is active in various community and charitable causes, including the Children s Miracle Network, America s Second Harvest, Easter Seals, the United Way, the American Red Cross and local schools. Headquartered in Salisbury, N.C., the company maintains a location in Amherst, Va.
