2494 Dellinger Acres
Edinburg, VA 22824
Camp Strawderman nestled in the George Washington National Forest, 12 miles west of Woodstock Virginia, officially became a girl's camp in 1929, but its roots go as far back as the Revolutionary War. Just past fields awash in wild flowers and a stone's throw beyond Wolf Gap is the entrance to a world suspended in time. A simple country lane takes you through the waters of Stoney Creek and straight into the arms of Camp Strawderman - a summer experience rich in history, tradition and natural beauty for girls ages 6-17. Over 300 acres of privately owned land, punctuated with mature trees and forest trails are home to 15 sleeping cabins with adjoining counselor's rooms, a main dining hall, a large recreation hall, a craft shop, a camp store, a counselors' lodge, and a director's cabin, all built in historic rustic style. Water for drinking and showers is supplied by pure mountain springs, and Stoney Creek, flowing through the camp, provides a natural facility for swimming and water sports. For more than 80 years, Camp Strawderman has been a summer oasis for young women and girls. Originally founded by Margaret Vance Hoffman, (affectionately known as Barca) in the 1920's, it was passed down to her niece, the current Camp Director, Margaret "Margie" Gouldman in 1986. Margie grew up as a camper at Strawderman and has continued to share her love of this valley and the ideals of camp with new campers each year. From generation to generation, the camp spirit has remained unchanged. Each summer, the spirit is encouraged and mentored by counselors who are at least 18 years of age and chosen for their strong character and leadership abilities. Many are former campers who have completed our two-year counselor-in-training program and bring a love of this place and ideals to their work. And in keeping with our commitment to keep life simple and real, there is one counselor for every four campers.

Truly, the best summer camp for girls ever! Horses! Hiking! Swimming in a creek. Tennis, archery, dance, fun, and friends. The most beautiful place, too. Just the best.
