Dr. Drewes grew up in Reston, VA, and attended the College of William and Mary, where he majored in biology and minored in chemistry. During his summers, he had the opportunity work at the National Cancer Institute and assist in studying a gene involved in childhood leukemia. Following college, Dr. Drewes attended EVMS. Impressed with the care provided at CHKD and CHKD's strong dedication to families, hr completed his residency there. During his time as chief resident and the following year, he served as an attending physician in the emergency department, as well as caring for newborns in various area nurseries. He is now part of the pediatrics team at Tidewater Children’s Associates, which is part of CHKD Medical Group.

Dr. Slade-Byrd truly believes that CHKD is 'more than a hospital.' As a resident, practicing physician and mother of three, she can honestly say that this motto is true to heart. During her residency at CHKD, she had the privilege of learning from some of the most knowledgeable and experienced attending physicians and specialists in their respective fields.
