Century Stamp Co. Ltd was established in 1946 when it opened its first retail outlet in a rented mezzanine in a large bookstore in Heliopolis, Egypt. Owned and operated by Emil N. Hakim. Emil started collecting stamps in 1933 at the age of 7, when a relative gave him his first album. By the Age of 12, he started dealing professionally with stamps, by buying and selling to the local stamps dealers in Cairo, Egypt. After moving with his wife and kids to New York in 1963, he established a mail order operation from his house by advertising regularly in Linn's Weekly Stamp News. Mostly dealing in Egypt and Greece stamps, he eventually became quite successful and started to grow. In 1971, Emil moved to Canada. Shortly after arriving he opened a retail store at the Sheridan Mall in Mississauga, Ontario. His wife was appointed the store manager until his two boys finished their schooling. At that time Sam ( Emil's youngest son ) was also helping at the store in his spare time, slowly becoming quite astute in philately. During the time at the Sheridan Mall, Emil used his substantial personal stamp collection as a loan stock. Which was painstakingly smuggled from Egypt to London, England, and then mailed from London to his brother in New York? In 1978, his son Sam joined the company on a full-time basis. Having grown up immersed in stamp collecting and philately, he gained a great deal of experience and knowledge. With Sam's help the business grew steadily and in 1982 they moved to a new location on Lakeshore Rd. W. in the Clarkson Galleria Mall. Eventually growing out of that space, in 1996 they moved to their own property and building just a few doors down. This is where we operate today, at 1723 Lakeshore Road West, Mississauga. In August 2000 Emil Jr. joined the company on a full-time basis, as he also gained a great deal of experience in philately, through years of growing up in the store. Success does not come by accident. It is the reliable and friendly service we give each and every customer, together with integrity and honestly, is what we consider the backbone of our business.
