History
The Offshore Energy Center (OEC) is composed of a group of dedicated men and women within the offshore energy sector that established a non profit organization to assist with educating the public about the offshore oil and gas industry in the 1980's. After years of fundraising and feasibility studies, the Ocean Star jackup rig was purchsed, overhauled, and opened for public display in April of 1997. So much of our modern society relies on oil and things made from it. In addition to helping us get to where we need to go by providing fuels and building roads, hydrocarbons play an essential role in the production of everything from computers and cell phones to prescription medicines and shampoos. At the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum you can learn about how these hydrocarbons formed and what it takes to extract them from the earth - from people and processes to tools and technology.
