After completing medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2005, Dr. Wu interned in the Department of General Surgery at the University of Arizona from 2005-2006. She then completed a residency in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Arizona in 2010, followed by a one-year sports medicine fellowship program at the Orthopaedic Research of Virginia from 2010-2011. She also completed a year of Surgical Anatomical Pathology. She then enrolled at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine where she completed an internship in Internal Medicine, followed by residency in Dermatology, under notable chair Dr. Diya Mutasim. During this time, Dr. Hawayek was appointed chief resident in her final year. She became board certified in Dermatology in 2005.
