The Chattanooga Housing Authority, chartered in 1938, is a public nonprofit corporation. It was formed under the Tennessee Housing Authorities Law and carries out public housing and urban development programs as its primary activities. It is governed by a seven-member board of commissioners appointed by the mayor of Chattanooga and it has a workforce of more than 200 employees. There are over 10 active resident associations under the housing authority and approximately 40 agencies that provide resident services on- and off-site. Located in Chattanooga, Tenn., the Chattanooga Housing Authority organizes a variety of residents initiatives, including tax credit development, strategic plan, unit reconfigurations, additional handicap accessible units and performance contracting for energy conservation methods.
