Dr. Shane Woolf earned his undergraduate degree at Princeton University and then his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in 1998. He completed residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina, and then went on to complete a sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction fellowship at the Taos Orthopaedic Institute in Taos, New Mexico. Dr. Woolf returned to Charleston to join the faculty in the Department of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2006. His practice has focused on all types of shoulder conditions affecting children and adults, knee ligament and cartilage injury, and treatment of various other sports-related injuries. He provides a thorough evaluation and examination and then reviews all treatment options with his patients, including non-surgical and surgical. Dr. Woolf is board-certified and holds a certificate of added qualification in orthopaedic sports medicine. He has served as Chief of Sports Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina since 2013. Along with other members of the MUSC Health sports medicine team, he provides medical coverage and support as head orthopaedic physician to the Charleston Battery (USL Championship), chief tournament physician for the Volvo Car Open tennis tournament (WTA), as well as team physician for the Charleston Riverdogs (MiLB), numerous local high schools, and other sports organizations in the Lowcountry. Dr. Woolf has served in the medical pool for the United States Ski and Snowboard Team. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and American Orthopaedic Association. He will serve on the AAOS Board of Councilors beginning in 2020. He is past-president of the South Carolina Orthopaedic Association and a past president of the Charleston County Medical Society. He has authored or co-authored numerous scientific articles on knee and shoulder research topics.Dr. Woolf's clinical interests include sports medicine, treatment of the overhead athlete, injuries to the knee and shoulder, rotator cuff disorders, shoulder instability, shoulder arthritis and replacement, knee ligament instability, anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL) injury, meniscus tears, and cartilage injury. Dr. Woolf is skilled in advanced arthroscopic techniques, which can offer less invasive treatment options for many shoulder, knee, and hip conditions. One of his academic interests is instructing residents and other practicing surgeons in such arthroscopic techniques. He also welcomes second opinion visits and treatment of patients who have had bad outcomes with previous surgeries. His goal is to find and correct the problems that are causing your pain, loss of motion, and poor function.

Dr. Rick Silver is a professor of medicine and pediatrics and has served as director of the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology since 1995. In 2007, he was named distinguished university professor, the highest academic rank bestowed at MUSC. Dr. Silver serves as associate director of a multidisciplinary clinical research center (MCRC) for the study of rheumatic diseases in African-Americans funded by NIAMS. Dr. Silver’s clinical interests include scleroderma and scleroderma-related conditions, as well as childhood rheumatic diseases. MUSC Health is one of the world’s leaders in clinical care and investigation of systemic sclerosis (scleroderma) and scleroderma-like conditions, e.g. eosinophilic fasciitis and the eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome. MUSC Health also serves as the state of South Carolina's only referral center for childhood rheumatic diseases. Dr. Silver has led the efforts to coordinate care for children in South Carolina with rheumatic diseases for the past 32 years,FALSE, and he continues to provide clinical care and conduct clinical research with Dr. Tasha Ruth, whose primary appointment is in the Department of Pediatrics.
