Project Cool Breeze is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Charleston, SC. Founded in 1999 by South Carolina State Representative Wendell G. Gilliard, their mission is to uplift, aid, and serve the needs of underserved and underrepresented veterans, senior citizens, homeless families and citizens, and individuals with chronic medical conditions. They strive to cultivate quality of life, wellness, and awareness in underserved South Carolina communities through various annual program initiatives, including the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Portrait Awards, Hope for the Homeless Coat and Food Drive, Air Conditioner and Fan Distribution, and Turkey Day Giveaway. Project Cool Breeze has been making a significant impact in the Lowcountry and surrounding areas by providing over 500 fans and air conditioner units to seniors, veterans, and individuals with chronic medical conditions. Their distributions are made possible through the support of sponsors such as Dominion Energy, Boeing, Lowe's West Ashley, Palmetto Goodwill Industries, Nucor, local radio and television stations, local churches, and individual donors.
