Jennifer Lynn Harper, MD

Susan Lee Zayac is a Family Nurse Practitioner who was raised in Massachusetts and joined the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman after high school graduation. She has lived in the Charleston area since 1982. She has 3 children and 4 grandchildren. She earned BSN, MSN and DNP degrees from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing. As a Nurse Practitioner since 2007, she practiced in the MUSC adult Emergency Department and has had a passion for emergent and critical care. She is predominantly interested in neurosurgical and neuro-oncologic care management, and has joined the MUSC neurosurgery team to provide inpatient care to neurosurgery patients exclusively. Susan is national board certified by the AANP, and is the recipient of the AANP State Award for Excellence in 2013.

Dr. Abhay Varma is faculty in neurosurgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his residency in India and fellowships in brain tumor surgery and spine surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Toronto, and the Cleveland Clinic. He specializes in managing adult brain tumors, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation, adult spinal and spine tumors, and peripheral nerve disorders, including children with brachial plexus injuries (neonatal brachial plexopathy). His surgical practice offers microsurgery and endoscopic surgery. He also offers brain mapping and awake craniotomies for patients with brain tumors in eloquent areas, like the motor strip, the speech areas, and perisylvian tumors. Dr. Varma accepts new patients in downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and Murrells Inlet.

Donna Roberts, M.D., MS, recently joined the International Space Station National Laboratory (ISSNL) as the Deputy Chief Scientist, where she assists the Chief Scientist in developing long-term microgravity research goals for the ISSNL. In addition, Dr. Roberts is a Professor in the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science at the Medical University of South Carolina. In addition to clinical work as a practicing neuroradiologist, she has served as principal investigator for several NASA-funded studies investigating the impact of spaceflight on the human brain during long stays in microgravity. She also conducted several industry-sponsored clinical trials and served as aninternational principal investigator for a multi-national MRI contrast agent drug trial. She previously worked in Washington, DC, for Lockheed Engineering and Sciences Company, providing program management support to the NASA Life Sciences Division at NASA Headquarters. Dr. Roberts has served as a voting member of the FDA's Medical Imaging Drugs Advisory Committee. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers and has given TedX talks describing her research. She has won several awards, including the International Space Station Compelling Results Award from the American Astronautical Society in 2018. Dr. Roberts holds an M.D. degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, a master of science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado, and a bachelor of science in Computer Engineering from Clemson University. She completed residency training in Radiology at the Medical University of South Carolina and a fellowship in Neuroradiology at the University of California, San Francisco.
