Eliza McElwee, MD

As an academic health system, our physicians are leading the advances from basic gynecology to complex care and treatment. With more than 40 physicians and researchers focused on Women’s Health who provide care in multiple locations MUSC Health is proud to have earned U.S. News & World Report 2018 through 2019 national ranking as one of the top 20 hospitals for Gynecology. The score is based on various data categories, including volume of high-risk patients, nurse staffing, and patient survival.

Erin Phlegar is a physician assistant in the Department of Psychiatry. She is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina's PA program and received a degree in neuroscience from Middlebury College. Erin previously worked at Harvard University in The Buckner Lab exploring deep dynamic phenotyping and cognitive psychology. She has a strong interest in Women's Mental Health. A Charleston native, she enjoys playing with her two rescue pups, traveling, and spending time outdoors.

Dr. Claire Smith is a perinatal psychiatrist in the Women's Reproductive Behavioral Health (WRBH) clinic, which serves to specifically help women who are pregnant or up to one year postpartum. She provides both therapy and medication management in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, grief and loss, substance use disorders, and other mental health concerns.
