Foothills Golden Retriever Rescue

We are a small, volunteer-staffed group, run by a board of directors dedicated to finding new permanent, loving homes for pure-bred Golden Retrievers in need. We mainly serve the upstate area of SC but can extend to surrounding areas such as western North Carolina and eastern Georgia if we have the resources. We emphasize mental and physical rehabilitation and placement in the best home possible for each dog. A golden enters our program through owner release or abandonment, many times in cooperation with a shelter or vet. The dogs are fully vetted, brought up to date on all required vaccinations, spayed or neutered, and heartworm tested and put on preventative, then they are placed in a volunteer foster home. The dog's temperament and personality are evaluated, and they are accessed for their compatibility with other dogs, cats and children so that the proper type of home, from our approved adoption candidates, may be chosen for them. Many of our foster homes are experienced trainers, and our dogs learn some basic obedience and house manners while in their care. Potential adopters, after reviewing our adoption requirements, must fill out an adoption application form and go through an interview process. Our forms and interview determine a peron's dog experience, expectations and lifestyle. We try to fit the right golden in the right situation with a person or family that fully understands the needs of a retriever and responsibilities of dog ownership. An adoption fee is charged, but it rarely covers the cost of bringing a dog up to adoptable status. While we have operated since early 2000, we formalized our organization, began our incorporation process and election of officers in August of 2000. Our federal 501 ( c ) 3 non profit status was approved in August of 2001,, retroactive to the beginning of 2001.
