Chirantan Banerjee, MD, MPH

Alexandra E. Kejner, M.D., FACS is an otorhinolaryngologist/head and neck surgeon dedicated to the treatment of head and neck patients, including those with malignant and benign tumors of the head and neck, including skin, sinus, oral cavity, oropharynx, voice box, neck, and salivary glands as well as the reconstruction of those areas after surgery using local tissue, skin grafts, and free tissue transfer. She also is specialty trained in advanced transoral robotic surgery of the upper aerodigestive tract. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology and Spanish at Wake Forest University, graduating with honors. She enrolled at the University of Michigan Medical School, graduating with honors in service. She then went on to an otorhinolaryngology residency at the University of Alabama – Birmingham before pursuing advanced training in fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. While there, she received further training in head and neck oncology, skull base surgery, transoral robotic surgery, and microvascular free tissue transfer. She is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and several book chapters. She is active in the American Head and Neck Society. She is on the board of the American Head and Neck Microvascular Section. She has been an invited panelist and organizer for multiple national and international meetings. She has acted as a preceptor at the annual Microvascular Bootcamp. She is a member of the Society of Integrative Oncology. She speaks fluent Spanish. She is interested in medical technology, outcomes research, surgical margins, microvascular reconstruction techniques, head and neck cancer, and improving the quality of life of head and neck cancer survivors.

Dr. Scalea is a board-certified surgeon specializing in kidney, pancreas, liver, and islet cell transplantation. Dr. Scalea’s patient care philosophy is to treat his patients with a meticulous focus on excellence and compassionate care. His clinical area of expertise is in abdominal organ transplantation, with a special interest in kidney, pancreas, and islet cell transplantation. Dr. Scalea has achieved outstanding results in his simultaneous kidney and pancreas (SPK) transplant recipients. At MUSC Health, he is the Surgical Director of the Kidney Transplant Program and the Director of Hepatology, Nephrology, and Transplant ICCE Quality and Innovation. Dr. Scalea’s research interests focus on improving outcomes and access to care for patients needing life-saving transplantation and researching strategies to achieve immune tolerance in allogeneic solid organ transplantation. He received international notoriety in 2019 for pioneering drones for organ transplants. As the inaugural Vice Chair of Surgery for Innovation, Dr. Scalea will expand his experience in clinical medicine, academic leadership, commercialization, and innovation to help translate innovative ideas from the laboratory to industry. Dr. Scalea received his medical degree and surgical training from the University of Maryland and completed his transplant fellowship at the University of Wisconsin and his post-doctoral fellowship at the Harvard Medical School, Transplantation Biology Research Center. When not in the clinic or laboratory, Dr. Scalea enjoys painting and performing music. His artworks are currently on display in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Alyssa Gitter is a licensed and board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in Infectious Diseases. Alyssa’s post-secondary education began with her undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia and then she earned her Bachelor Degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia in 2007. Prior to becoming a board-certified Nurse Practitioner, Alyssa cared for patients as a Registered Nurse for seven years in Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Cardiology, and Pain Management in Charleston, SC. Alyssa graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2014 with both her Master of Science in Nursing and Doctorate of Nurse Practice degrees. After earning her graduate degrees, Alyssa practiced as a clinical provider in the Emergency Department caring for acutely ill-patients of all ages. Alyssa then joined a local Infectious Disease and Travel medicine private practice where she was a full-time clinical provider as well as the Director of Research. During her time there, Alyssa primarily practiced in the inpatient setting, lead an inpatient influenza drug trial, and also co-published “Emergency Department Utilization by HIV-Infected South Carolina Residents 1996-2005” in the HSOA Journal of AIDS Clinical Research and STDs. After several years in private practice, Alyssa joined the MUSC Infectious Disease team in 2021. Alyssa primarily works in the inpatient setting with a focus on telehealth.Alyssa’s clinical interests include skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and prevention and treatment of hospital-acquired infections.
