A nonprofit organization, Central Blood Bank has been operational for more than 55 years. Based in Pittsburgh, CBB is one of the leading providers of blood and blood products and related transfusion medicine services in western Pennsylvania. The center serves more than 40 hospitals in the Tri-State area. It employs more than 300 staff members, and collects and test units of over 160,000 donations annually. CBB also collects blood for the manufacture of whole blood, platelets, plasma and other special products. Its special programs include community blood drives, high school scholarship programs, partners 4 life, the GOLD Club, and replenishment drive programs. Additionally, it offers bone marrow transplantation, a cancer research center, trauma services and general medical solutions.
