Ludlow Youth Community Center

The Latin American Community Center in Wilmington, Del., has provided more than 35 years of service to the community. It was established in 1969 by a group of young Latinos whose parents came to the United States seeking greater opportunity to provide for their families. Its focus is to assist with the assimilation of Latinos from varying cultures into an English-speaking community. Help provided consisted of learning English as a second language, after-school tutoring and other children and youth programs, as well as family service programs to deal with the challenge of maintaining cultural pride while adapting to cultural change. The Latin American Community Center serves an average of 6,500 individuals with a staff of more than 50 bilingual employees that provide services in programs. Clients served come from Cuban, Mexican, Guatemalan, Puerto Rican, Dominican and other Central American countries.

People For People, a nonprofit organization, is a community outreach arm of the Greater Exodus Baptist Church. It offers programs in the areas of social service, economic development, education and housing. It offers various programs for the unemployed, which include subsidized employment, on-the-job training, job search and vocational skills training. It provides a range of programs for improving consumer s financial independence, such as financial literacy education, homeownership counseling, individual development accounts, check cashing and accounts services. People For People was established in 1993, and its office is located in Philadelphia.

Youth Service is a community-based, nonprofit social service agency that provides shelter and immediate help to children and families. Operational for more than 50 years, the agency offers emergency shelter for homeless and runaway children. It also provides 24-hour emergency care, as well as foster care and placement services. Youth Service serves more than 5,000 children and adults annually. The agency additionally provides truancy prevention services. Its crisis nursery program offers emergency care for families with young children. The agency is a member of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Child Welfare League of America. It is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children. Youth Service operates in Philadelphia.
