Gilbert's Antiques and Upholstery now located on Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia, originated from a craftsman dream to come to this great country and make a life for his family. Our Father had a love of fine furniture and he committed himself to the craft of preserving and enhancing pieces made by the accomplished furniture makers of the past. Gilbert Pons, Master Upholsterer In 1970 Gilbert Pons, Sr. founded Gilbert's Upholstery in the historic neighborhood village of Frankford. Gilbert Sr. soon became known for his attention to detail and his commitment to high quality customer service. Word spread and the business grew faster than anticipated. Soon he began teaching his sons the trade. In the 1980s, Gilbert, Jr. and Richard Pons added commercial upholstery, antique restoration, furniture repair, custom-made slip-covers, rushing and chair caning to their list of talents. Then, in 1988 the business outgrew the original space, so the family purchased the building at 4529 Frankford Avenue. The new building, not only allowed the brothers to expand their workshop, but also gave them the ability to expand their business. The business is now known as Gilbert's Antiques and Upholstery and we offer high quality antique furniture, artwork, oriental rugs and collectible. We acquire enough pieces that we now use the original building as storage. Come visit us today!
