Dr. Pogozelski earned his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine (Durham, North Carolina), where he served as president of his class and received a prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship. He entered an accelerated program that combined internal medicine residency and cardiology training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He completed his cardiology fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center prior to completing an additional fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology. Dr. Pogozelski also received one of fourteen National American Heart Association Fellow-to-Faculty Transition Awards for his research on pulmonary hypertension while there. Dr. Pogozelski is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease and in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. He has additional board certifications in internal medicine, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography. He is a member of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. He joined Allegheny Health Network (AHN) in 2014 as an assistant professor of medicine within the division of Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. In 2016, Dr. Pogozelski was listed in Pittsburgh Magazine’s “40 Under 40” as one of the most influential Pittsburghers under the age of 40. The Pennsylvania Medical Society chose him as one of the top physicians in Pennsylvania under the age of 40 the following year. He currently divides his time between Allegheny General Hospital and Forbes Hospital, where he serves as the lead physician for the Heart Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension Program. Dr. Pogozelski also serves as Vice Chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Forbes Hospital.

Building on his work at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Bahary is using insights gained by studying vertebrate development to determine how cancers grow. Clinical trials emanating from this research will continue at AHN Cancer Institute and are expected to lead to the development of new targeted agents and immunologic strategies for treating cancer.
