Dr. Jocelyn Compton grew up in a family of engineers and physicians, so it came as no surprise that she felt right at home as an orthopedic surgeon. She has employed her curious and inquisitive nature in treating a variety of orthopedic patients, believing they all deserve unique consideration and creative solutions. She enjoys collaborating and tailoring treatment to patients’ goals. “There is nothing better than doing what I love to help patients do what they love,” says Dr. Compton. Dr. Compton completed her undergraduate and master’s degrees at Yale University, medical degree at Columbia University, residency at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and fellowship in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. During her training, she dedicated time to investigating the cellular mechanisms of fracture healing and cartilage regeneration. Dr. Compton’s practice focuses on hand and upper extremity conditions, but also includes trauma, fractures, and general orthopedics. Dr. Compton likes spending time with her husband and daughter exploring new places, especially the outdoors and food scene. She is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and serves on the Public Education Committee.

Explaining that the meticulous nature of hand surgery is a perfect match for his personality, Dr. McPherson Beall could also be referring to his entire approach to treating his patients. “The longer I’ve been in practice the more I’ve realized that the patient’s unique goals, social circumstances, and other challenges can be the greatest factor in determining the right approach,” he says. An avid cyclist who is married with two children, he goes to great lengths to listen to and communicate with patients about the range of treatment options. Understanding the patient’s goals, desires, and any impediments to recovery is essential. Dr. Beall received his medical degree from the University of Michigan, did his residency in Missouri and two fellowships in hand surgery in California. He treats a variety of issues of the hand, wrist and elbow, including trauma, arthritis, nerve injuries or compression (carpal tunnel syndrome), and management of the upper extremity in children with congenital differences. With an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Stanford, it’s not surprising that Dr. Beall is driven by the intellectual challenges his job offers. “Sometimes the solution is surgical,” he says. “But many times it’s a matter of managing the symptoms while finding the right way to help the body heal itself over time.” Dr. Beall is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
