Bandon Community Youth Center

Founded in 1969, United Community Action Network is a private nonprofit community action agency that promotes resources and opportunities in all parts of Douglas County, Ore. Through operations of programs and in partnerships with other agencies, it strives to increase the self-sufficiency of the low-income populations. In its transitions programs, for example, it provides self-help education and training programs that help participants through major life transitions, building on strengths and overcoming barriers to self-sufficiency. These programs include academic skills upgrade, computer literacy training, and a personal growth curriculum designed to promote the development of a strong sense of self-worth and competence. In its confidence clinic, courses are offered in assertiveness, communications, parenting, values, goal setting and decision making, among others. Douglas Resident Training Facilities, founded in 1976 and located in Roseburg, Ore., is a private nonprofit organization providing services to people with developmental disabilities. The organization was formed with the support of the Douglas County Association for Retarded Citizens. It operates five group homes and three supported living apartments in the Roseburg and Winston area in Oregon. Douglas Resident Training Facilities provides programs that are individualized and based on resident s needs. The organization promotes and facilitates independent living through community integration, work opportunities, socialization, and recreation. It recognizes the need to positively influence the community's awareness of special needs and abilities of its members with disabilities through various programs.
