Special Olympics is an international nonprofit organization * dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. Special Olympics offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round training and competition in 30 Olympic-type summer and winter sports. ( * Special Olympics is recognized as a tax-exempt organization under U.S. Internal Revenue Code Section 501 ( c ) ( 3 ). ) Special Olympics is a program of year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than one million children and adults with intellectual disabilities in more than 160 countries worldwide. More than 1, 400 athletes and 3, 000+volunteers participate in North Dakota. Our mission is... to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, talents, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
