Contact Dan at yogimedic hotmail.com. Huff Hills Ski Patrol began treating patients in 1992 out of a 12x8 hut. It was cramped to say the least as we treat over 100 people each year whom are injured while enjoying the outdoors snow sports surrounding Huff Hills Ski Area south of Mandan North Dakota. The patrol is a very eclectic group of volunteers who as a group dedicate about 3300 hours of working and training together to provide that emergent care for the snow sport enthusiasts. This group also can be called upon for search and rescue or as a quick response resource for both Morton and Burleigh Counties. To maintain quality and assurance, Huff Hills Ski Patrol is also affiliated with the National Ski Patrol to assist in training and philosophy. The National Ski Patrol is a member-driven professional organization of registered ski patrols, patrollers and others, both paid and volunteer. The National Ski Patrol supports its members through credentialed education and training in leadership, outdoor emergency care, safety and transportation services, which enables members to serve the community in the safe enjoyment of outdoor recreation. Huff Hills Ski Patrol is in dire need of a new patient treatment area. The patrol currently is providing care for injuries from life threatening chest injuries, to finger sprains out of an undersized, outdated, dilapidated FEMA trailer. We acquired that trailer in 1996 as a temporary fix and it has simply outlived its usefulness. In an effort to maintain and improve our abilities to provide Outdoor Emergency Care, the Huff Hills Ski Patrol would like to build a new First Aid Station. It is critical that we maintain a clean, stocked well equipped treatment area that is ready at a moments notice as we can and do have life threatening injuries. It is also important that we have an aid area that can be accessible to the patrons yet private enough to be compliant. Due to the small space we currently utilize, we are very limited in our ability to give the needed seclusion sometimes required for appropriate patient care. Ski Areas in the State of North Dakota are not required to provide Emergency Care, however this patrol was formed to provide that volunteer service to protect our community as well as our families and frankly ourselves. We are strictly a volunteer group and we must support our efforts by raising funds for the purchase of our equipment, training and the cost of the operation of our First Aid Station. The Huff Hill Ski Patrol has been working to secure the needed funding for this project. We are finalizing plans for the new patient treatment area. The costs projections to complete this project range from $7500 to $9500. The reason for the varied cost is due to the difference in design, dependent on funds raised. This cost would include engineering and design, materials and some labor costs on mechanical. The Patrol has many talents amongst our volunteers that include construction back grounds. We are counting on those talents/resources to provide the needed labor for the buildings construction.
