Katherine Sweetapple, PA-C

I chose to become a physician assistant because I love working with people and was very interested in practicing medicine while growing up. Being a family medicine physician assistant allows me to pursue my passion of medicine while also developing meaningful relationships with my patients. My philosophy of care focuses on working as a team with my patients to set and achieve goals related to their overall health and well-being. I encourage my patients to take responsibility for their health and to actively participate in their care. I am also an adjunct assistant professor at UNC in Chapel Hill. I enjoy teaching and mentoring our future generations of physician assistants. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family and friends.

As a physician assistant, I chose this career path because I have always been passionate about making a difference in people's lives. Growing up in a small town with limited access to healthcare, I saw firsthand the challenges people face when it comes to health literacy and accessing quality care. Becoming a PA allowed me to fill that gap, expanding access to healthcare for those who need it most. I truly enjoy helping people reach their healthiest selves, and I take pride in ensuring that no one has to face their health journey alone. My approach to patient care is patient-centered and evidence-based. I believe in building a strong partnership with my patients, tailoring healthcare plans to their unique goals while incorporating the latest, proven medical practices. This approach allows me to support patients in achieving optimal health while respecting their individual needs and preferences. I have a particular interest in women's health, dermatology, and behavioral health. I also find great fulfillment in managing a variety of health conditions and building lasting relationships with my patients, especially in a family medicine setting where I can care for people across all stages of life. Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, reading, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. These activities allow me to unwind and recharge, ensuring that I bring my best self to my patients each day.

I chose to become a physician assistant because I wanted to marry my passions for people and science and serve in a career where I could build relationships and help others in a meaningful way every single day. My approach to patient care is to be an active listener, trusted partner, and dedicated advocate. I seek to understand who my patients are, what their needs, goals, and challenges are, and then develop a common sense plan for how we can work together to achieve shared goals. Outside of work, I love spending quality time with family and friends. I also enjoy exercising and traveling.
