The Giblem Lodge, built from 1871 to 1873, became Wilmington’s first African American Masonic Lodge. Giblem Lodge still serves Wilmington and the African American community as a meeting place and in 1983 the Historic Wilmington Foundation recognized the site as a landmark.

Sadgwar Family Home

Constructed by Frederick Sadgwar in 1877 enlarged 1910, a black carpenter-builder and civic leader, for his family. From 1881 until his death in 1925, Frederick was an important member of Wilmington’s African American business, charitable, and religious communities.

Presbyterian Church

Chestnut Street Presbyterian Church

Chestnut Sreet Church is the original building that was erected by the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, NC in 1858. It is the only surviving Carpenter Italianate church and has served a black congregation since 1867.
