With more than 24,000 admissions each year, FirstHealth of the Carolinas is a private, non-governmental, nonprofit health care network that serves 15 counties in both North Carolina and South Carolina. The network includes three primary hospitals with more than 620 collective beds. Its other facilities include a rehabilitation center, a skilled nursing facility, a pain clinic, seven family care centers, six fitness centers and an alternative therapy center. The network also manages five charitable foundations, a hospice program, various home care services, a critical care transports service and an insurance plan. Its more than 200 physicians specialize in behavioral health, cardiology, imaging, neuroscience, oncology, emergency care, orthopedics, rehabilitation and surgery. FirstHealth of the Carolinas has headquarters in Pinehurst, N.C. A board of 19 volunteers from Moore, Montgomery and Richmond counties governs the organization.
