The Dr. Walter Reed House was built ca 1850 and was the Methodist Parsonage. Dr. Reed was the army physician whose work led to the cure for Yellow Fever in the early 20th century. Dr. Reed lives in this home at two different times during his boyhood when his father, Lemeul Sutton Reed, served as minister of the Murfreesboro United Methodist Church. He met and married a young lady who lived across the street, Miss Emilie Lawrence. The home is now a historical site owned and operated by the Murfreesboro Historical Association. It is available for private tours and school group tours upon request, and is also open during events sponsored by the Murfreesboro Historical Association. The property has a fine annex on the back which has an event space that can hold approximately 50 people. The space has audio / visual capability allowing for easy display of presentations. The annex may be rented from the Murfreesboro Historical Association.
