Both my parents are physicians. My mom is a pediatrician, and my father is a vascular surgeon. They actually tried to convince me not to study medicine, as they are all too aware of the pressures that go along with the field. But I couldn't find anything else that brought me the satisfaction I get from helping patients live their healthiest lives. \n I chose internal medicine due to its focus on multiple systems in the body rather than one organ specifically. Being a primary care physician allows me to facilitate my patients' journeys through the complex healthcare system, which can be daunting. I appreciate the opportunity to demystify it, as best as I can, for patients. \n The most important trait a doctor can have is something not taught in medical school. It's to be a good and careful listener. I start by asking questions, listening intently and involving patients in decisions about their care. My goal is to form a partnership with each patient and to be their guide in improving their health through treatments and prevention strategies. I have an interest in the LGBTQ+ community, and I provide care tailored to that community's needs. \n At Mercy Hospital St. Louis - where I did my training - I was honored to serve as chief resident. \n In my spare time, you might find me hiking with my husky, cooking and spending time with family.

My father was a neonatologist. When I was young, I would often visit the hospital with him to see the sick babies in his care. That inspired me to become a pediatrician myself. My three younger siblings also followed our father's footsteps into the medical field, so you can say caring for others is truly the family business. \n I love working with children each day; they are so curious, full of energy and excited about the world around them. I enjoy caring for children of all ages, and have special interest in premature babies, as well as children with behavior concerns such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I believe in letting kids be kids. They are stronger than we think and a lot of times they are able to work things out for themselves if we stay out of their way. I see my role as understanding when to give them that freedom, and when intervention is necessary. When you have a concern with your child, we will get to the bottom of it, and we will avoid unnecessary medications or procedures while we do that. \n I grew up in central Florida and met my wife, Morgan, in medical school. I completed a pediatric residency here in North Carolina, and fell in love with the weather and people here. We are happy to call the Winston-Salem area home, and enjoy taking our son and our dog to local parks and swimming pools, and on adventures to find delicious North Carolina barbecue.
