Murfrees Landing is a waterfront park located on the banks of the Meherrin River in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. In 1746, Irish Immigrant William Murfree purchased a large tract of land. Eight years later Murfree’s Landing was designated to be a King’s Landing where goods arriving and departing by boat could be inspected by a representative of His Majesty’s government. Murfreesboro was a center of riverboat commerce and trade up until the turn of the 20th century. On April 10, 1922, the James Adams Floating Theater made its first of many visits to Murfreesboro and welcomed the townspeople on board for their musicals and plays. The James Adams Floating Theater was the model for author Edna Ferber's "Show Boat". This location is now being developed into a riverside park. There is ample parking, and a new pier and small boat launch are planned for the near future. It is a lovely spot to bring the family for an afternoon picnic and some fishing on the banks of the river.
