Sterling Insurance Company is a leading provider of personal and small commercial lines of insurance for people and their businesses throughout New York. The company began back in 1895 when a meeting of citizens was held to consider establishment of a mutual fire insurance company. The Schoharie and Otsego Mutual Fire Insurance Company was established. In 1910, the corporate name was changed to Sterling Fire Insurance Company. The present title was adopted in 1959 to reflect the company s expansion into other lines of business. A wholly owned subsidiary, Sterling Marketing Services, was established in 1993. The company directly underwrites a variety of personal and commercial insurance products. Products include insurance for homeowners, equestrian estate, mobile homes, tenant homeowners, fire, personal automobile, personal umbrella, landlord, business owners, commercial liability and inland marine. Sterling Insurance Company is headquartered in Cobleskill, N.Y.
