Scheman's Bryant Park

History

Scheman's Bryant Park is the third store owned by Andrew Scheman who represents the 4th generation in the hardware and paint business in his family. In 1905 my great-garndfather, Joseph Scheman, established J. Scheman & Sons on 6th Ave and 26th Street in Manhattan. Of his 13 children 3 became store owners. One of his children was my grandfather and he established Scheman & Grant at 575 8th Avenue in 1921. Today, the other stores are gone but I still run Scheman & Grant and have opened two new stores - Tribeca Paint last year and Scheman's Bryant Park this year. Scheman's Bryant Park is located where the old Central Hardware & Electric did business on 39th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. I am proud to say that the family business is once again 3 stores.
