New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is governed by the State Council of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation in New York. The State Council of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation consists of the Commissioner of State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Commissioner of Environmental Conservation, as well as chairs of various regional parks commissions. The council s regional commissions are charged with acting as a central advisory body on matters affecting parks, recreation and historic preservation within their respective regions. The State Council of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation is responsible for the operation, administration, maintenance and preservation of various state parks. Its parks include Allegany State Park, Artpark State Park, Bear Mountain State Park and Buckhorn Island State Park.
