Dan Rattiner started Dan s Papers in 1960. Rattiner delivered the first edition of Dan s Papers (on July 1, 1960) in a 1953 Oldsmobile Sedan to 140 stores and restaurants and motel lobbies in Montauk, N.Y. The weekly newspaper now covers the entire east end of Long Island with special delivery to about 150 locations in Manhattan. Dan's Papers prints 59,000 to 61,000 newspapers. The original Montauk Pioneer still exists, with an additional weekly circulation of 6,000. Dan's Papers has increased from 12 pages in 1960 to an average of 200 pages. Dan's Papers, based in Bridgehampton, N.Y., employ about 55 people and serves as the largest circulating newspaper on Long Island's east end. In addition to the newspaper, Dan's Papers publishes Dan s Hamptons Style (a lifestyle magazine that appears about 20 times a year), a road map, Dan s Hampton Sports magazine and several other publications.
