Dr. Kevin An is a cardiothoracic transplant and mechanical circulatory support clinical instructor practicing at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He completed his residency in cardiac surgery at the University of Toronto in 2025. During residency, he completed a research fellowship with a focus on coronary revascularization under the supervision of Dr. Mario Gaudino at Weill Cornell Medicine. He also completed his MPH in clinical effectiveness at Harvard University in 2023. Prior to residency, he completed his MD at McMaster University in 2018 and his BSc (Hons) in medicine with first class honors at the University of St Andrews in 2015. He has clinical and research interests in cardiothoracic transplantation and coronary revascularization. He is board eligible in cardiac surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He has authored publications in several well-regarded journals, including Circulation, Journal of American College of Cardiology, and Annals of Thoracic Surgery. During residency, he was awarded the Shafie S. Fazel Outstanding Resident Surgeon and Investigator Award, awarded to the overall best graduating resident in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto.

He is a leader in outcome research in aortic diseases and heart failure. He has published more than 300-350 manuscripts in prestigious, peer-reviewed journals and has authored numerous book chapters about heart disease. Dr. Takayama attended University of Tokyo for Medical School, did his internship at University of Tokyo, general surgery residency in University of Washington Medical Center, and cardio-thoracic surgery fellowship in New-York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.
