Dr. Chang was born in sunny southern California and raised in Taiwan. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he graduated summa cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors. He went on to receive his medical degree from UCLA and was awarded the prestigious David Geffen Scholarship, a merit-based full-ride scholarship. During medical school, Dr. Chang co-founded a public benefit corporation to monitor treatment outcomes to empower patients and accelerate medical innovation. This led him to obtain a Master in Business Administration through an accelerated combined MD/MBA track. Dr. Chang subsequently completed his internship in Medicine at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York Presbyterian-Columbia and Cornell Medical Center where he served as the Columbia Chief Resident. Dr. Chang is passionate about utilizing innovation to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Through a data-driven approach, he has published multiple papers on optimization of procedural techniques in interventional pain. He continues to contribute to the field of wearables, predictive analytics, and enhancing access to care through technological advancements.

As Vice Chair, Dr. Lombardi works closely with the orthopedic surgery research leadership team, as well as all faculty, residents and administration to further clinical research. His research interests focus on the application of new technologies to complex spinal conditions with the goal of improving patient outcomes. To date, Dr. Lombardi has published over 20 book chapters, authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, and has received numerous academic awards, including: the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society, Julius S. Neviaser Award in Orthopedic Surgery, Harold M. Dick Award for Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery, and the Alexander Garcia Award for Excellence in Clinical Orthopedic Surgery. In his free time, Dr. Lombardi enjoys hiking, jogging, fishing and traveling.
