Literacy Assistance Center
The Literacy Assistance Center (LAC) is a nonprofit organization based in New York, dedicated to strengthening and expanding the adult education system while advancing adult literacy as a fundamental societal value. Since 1983, the LAC has focused on improving the capacity and quality of education programs for New York's most marginalized adults and out-of-school youth through services such as teacher training, instructional coaching, and curriculum development. In addition to its educational initiatives, the LAC launched the Literacy Justice Initiative to promote adult literacy education within a broader framework of racial, social, and economic justice. The organization is committed to enhancing educational opportunities for the 22 million adult New Yorkers in need of literacy support, while actively advocating for immigrant rights and community engagement.
