Founded in 1957, the Medical and Health Research Association of New York City is a nonprofit organization that works towards the health and well-being of residents. It was established with the participation of the New York City Department of Health and serves more than 200,000 low-income and high-risk people annually. It addresses various issues, such as children's and women's health, HIV/AIDS and population issues. It facilitates the development and operation of health services and provides technical assistance for community-based organizations. It also provides education and information to people about precautionary methods and cures of common diseases. Operational for more than 40 years, Insurance Information Institute, also known as III, works to improve the public understanding of insurance products, services and policies. It works on more than 3,500 news stories, handles over 6,000 information requests, and answers nearly 50,000 consumers questions a day.
