The East Greenwich Township Police Department is a law enforcement agency that maintains law and order and protects residents lives and their property. Its traffic unit is responsible for the inventory and sales of vehicles impounded for crime and traffic violations. The department also writes grants to receive state and federal funding for traffic enforcement. The East Greenwich Township Police Department s K-9 unit handles article and building searches, criminal apprehension and handler protection. It conducts neighborhood watch programs, vacation house checks, security surveys and operation identification, as well as issues temporary handicapped parking permits. The department also supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, which focuses on the prevention of illegal usage of drugs, gang activities and violent behavior.
