Epifanio Calcara, MD, is Chair of Internal Medicine at Summit Health. In addition to overseeing all internists at the Group, Dr. Calcara addresses operational and clinical issues, monitors practice performance in internal medicine, and leads the transition from team-based care for the Group's patient-centered medical home (PCMH). Dr. Calcara also is an attending physician in internal medicine at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, and a staff physician for Kean University in Union, both in New Jersey. Dr. Calcara's expertise includes primary and preventive care.Before joining Summit Health, Dr. Calcara practiced internal medicine privately in Westfield and Garwood, New Jersey. For more than 13 years, he was President of Paramount Medical Group. To his credit, Dr. Calcara was integral in helping Paramount become a Level-3 Patient-centered Medical Home. He has been a staff physician for Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE & G), Associate Medical Director for Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Corporation, and a consultant for Hoechst-Celanese Corporation and Exxon Research and Engineering. He is former Vice Chair of Internal Medicine at the Group.Dr. Calcara is a recipient of the National Committee for Quality Assurance Certificate for his contributions to diabetes care. He is a member of the New Jersey Collaborative for Patient-centered Care Board of Directors.
