Photographic Images opened in downtown North Platte September 15, 1980 by Keith and Holly Howe, fulfilling a dream Keith held since he was an eight year old child and received his first Brownie camera as a birthday gift. At fourteen he photographed his first wedding. As a teenager, he printed his own photographs in his mom and dad's basement while serving as newspaper and yearbook photographer at Kearney High. Keith and Holly met in college and began dating in the fall of 1977. Interestingly enough, Keith spent much of that first date talking excitedly about the new job he would be starting in three days, working for a local studio. After Keith and Holly were married, they set about finding a location to start their own business. They decided on North Platte because "it just felt right". It was a feeling that proved to be true. After running a downtown studio for five years, the Howes outgrew the space and started looking for a new location. Fate stepped in when they learned the old St. Pat's "convent" house that was up for sale. Keith and Holly loved the personal ambience of a home rather than a commercial retail location, and the opportunity to preserve a part of North Platte history. A location was found, a house mover was hired and the lovely old building was moved to it's present location at the corner of Fifth and Willow. Through the years Keith and Holly have made many changes to the house, but it still has the same cozy atmosphere and same sense of history.
