History

St. Louis YouthBuild was sponsored by the Housing Authority until the YouthBuild program moved from HUD to a DOL program four years ago. After being sponsored on the last grant by the Carpenters' District Council of Greater St. Louis & Vicinity, we are now sponsored by the Parent Child Center until at least 2016. We remain partnered with the Carpenters.

Specialties

Adult Basic Education & Pre-Apprenticeship Carpentry Training Program. We work with men and women, ages 18 - 24, to help them find a career ladder and learn real life, on-the-job skills. We are partnered with Americorps and require all of our enrolled students to participate in community service projects multiple times per year.

Girls Inc of St Louis

Founded in 1981 and located in St. Louis, Girls Incorporated of St. Louis is a nonprofit organization that offers cultural and educational programs for girls between the ages of 4 and 18. It also provides summer, outreach and after-school programs. The organization conducts classes in arts and computers, as well as dance, music and drama. It offers sports activities that include volleyball, tennis, basketball and soccer. The organization also conducts classes on topics related to sewing, knitting, nutrition and meal preparation. Its junior program includes activities for personal and physical development and educational enhancement.
