Founded in 1996, Esse Health is an independent group of more than 75 physicians who practice in over 25 locations throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. The group offers Essence, which is a Medicare Advantage health insurance plan that includes nearly 25 hospitals, clinics and approximately 120 primary care physicians in its network. In addition to existing agreements with insurance companies, Essence contracts directly with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to provide Medicare Advantage prescription drug plans. In addition, it operates a center, Excel Imaging, which offers CT scans, biopsies, pain management procedures, and routine radiology and ultrasound services.
