Secretary of State
Established in 1817, the Mississippi Secretary of State is a service and information agency that performs various statutory functions, including the administration and supervision of public lands and the issuance of documents and publications. It also provides services related to the registration of correspondence schools and the investigation of charity and securities fraud. The agency operates several divisions, including business services, elections, regulation and enforcement, and education and publications. The Mississippi Secretary of State s elections division conducts a variety of tasks related to campaign finance disclosure, election officials training, and lobbyist registration and reporting. It also has the Support Services Division, which provides administrative support in the areas of personnel, budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing, telecommunications, mail safety, internal and external policy, strategic planning and property control. The Mississippi Secretary of State maintains its main office in Jackson, Miss.
