VINE Faith in Action was established in February of 1995, as an interfaith volunteer caregiving organization serving older adults, people with disabilities and individuals and families encountering difficult life situations. VINE's funding comes from many sources including individual, business and congregational donations and the Greater Mankato Area United Way. The organization receives both public and private grants that support its work. Over the years, staff and programs have been added that allow VINE to assist family caregivers, provide chore assistance to older homeowners, help people transition from hospitals and nursing homes and offer peer counseling. Throughout its growth, VINE has remained true to its mission of providing compassionate, caring assistance, without charge, to people who find life difficult because of age, disability or life circumstance. Although a faith-based organization, religious proselytizing is never allowed. Faith is shared through loving service. The organization remains faithful to care receivers for as long as needed, often until the end of their lives. VINE is an active member of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's national Faith in Action movement, which supports about 850 local caregiver organizations throughout the United States.
