The Rice County Sheriff's Office is a law enforcement agency that promotes public safety, identifies and solves criminal cases and safeguards citizens rights. It supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The Rice County Sheriff's Office operates a jail that houses convicted and pretrial prisoners. The office also maintains a civil division that responds to legal processes directed to the sheriff, including writs of execution, evictions, notices, provisional and enforcement processes, and various other court orders and documents. The Rice County Sheriff's Office is located in Faribault, Minn.

The Law Enforcement Center is a part of the sheriff's department of Steele County, Minn. It handles cases related to illegal alcohol and drug activities, fraud, child abuse and criminal violations. The center maintains a team of patrol officers to assure security of business in rural areas, enforce traffic laws, initial investigation of burglaries, assaults and vandalism. Its civil process handles civil legal documents. The Law Enforcement Center also oversees operation of the Steele County Detention Center, which focuses on safe and humane housing of sentenced and unsentenced detainees awaiting due process. The Law Enforcement Center is located in Owatonna, Minn.
